MUSCAT: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has completed a specialised logistics and supply chain management programme aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening the competitiveness of Omani businesses as the Sultanate continues to expand its logistics sector under Oman Vision 2040.
The programme, held across Muscat, South Al Batinah and Al Buraimi governorates between June 28 and July 16, trained 53 business owners and professionals from the trade, transport, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution sectors. It focused on helping companies improve inventory management, lower logistics costs, accelerate product delivery and adopt digital technologies across their supply chains.
The initiative forms part of OCCI's wider strategy to equip the private sector with skills needed to support economic diversification and improve business productivity in key industries.
"The programme represents a strategic step towards enhancing the efficiency of the logistics sector in the Sultanate of Oman and reinforcing its position as one of the key enablers of economic diversification and business competitiveness," said Mukhtar bin Abdullah al Shukaili, programme manager.
He said the initiative was designed to strengthen leadership and management capabilities within companies, enabling businesses to improve operational performance while expanding their competitiveness in local and international markets.
The training covered modern logistics and supply chain management practices, including procurement planning, warehousing, transportation, inventory optimisation and the use of advanced digital solutions to improve operational performance.
Ali bin Salem al Kalbani, the programme's lead trainer, introduced participants to international best practices in logistics management and demonstrated how integrated supply chains can reduce transportation and storage costs, minimise waste, improve delivery times and enhance customer satisfaction.
To complement classroom training, participants visited several manufacturing companies to observe logistics operations in practice. The visits included Areej Vegetable Oils & Derivatives in Rusayl Industrial City, Gulf Mushroom Products Company in South Al Batinah and Mazoon Dairy in Al Sunaynah, Al Buraimi Governorate.
The companies showcased their warehousing, inventory management and distribution systems, giving participants practical exposure to technology-driven logistics operations and supply chain planning.
Ibtisam bint Darwish al Zaabi, Director of Majan Training Institute, said the programme was designed to help entrepreneurs improve the management of their logistics operations while reducing costs and enhancing efficiency.
"Our role was to develop specialised training content and provide experienced trainers to ensure participants gain practical knowledge that can be applied directly within their businesses," she said.
The logistics programme is one of five specialised private-sector capacity-building initiatives launched by OCCI covering industry, tourism, agriculture, logistics and mining. The chamber plans to launch its Mining Project Management Programme later this month, targeting project managers, entrepreneurs and companies operating in the mining sector as Oman seeks to expand another key pillar of its non-oil economy.
